Michael Ruhlman is an award-winning, New York Times bestselling author, journalist, and cook. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Gourmet, Saveur, and Food Arts. He has written seven works of non-fiction: Boys Themselves, The Making of a Chef, The Soul of a Chef, The Reach of a Chef, Wooden Boats, and Walk On Water, all works of participatory observation, as well as House: A Memoir, about the purchase and renovation of a century-old Cleveland Heights monster that’s also an exploration of the importance of house and home in this country of vagabonds.

His most recent books are Ratio: The Simple Codes Behind the Craft of Everyday Cooking, Ad Hoc at Home with Thomas Keller. He was a judge on the culinary reality show Cooking Under Fire, The Food Network’s The Next Iron Chef and Iron Chef America, and Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. His book Ruhlman’s Twenty, on cooking technique, will be published in the fall. He continues to write about food and the work of the professional chef for national publications, in books and on his website, ruhlman.com, which registered more than 2.5 million page views last year.

He lives in Cleveland with his wife, photographer Donna Turner Ruhlman, and their two children.
