TRACY BENJAMIN

SHUTTERBEAN

I’m a working mom/wife/photographer based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Shutterbean is a space where I can be creative and celebrate my love for photography & domestic arts. Ha! I just said domestic arts. Each week, you’ll find a couple of new recipes, snippets of my everyday life, occasional organizing tips, and a few decorating posts (when I’m feeling annoyed with my house!). With each recipe I execute, I break down the steps so you know what you’re in for! My goal is for you to take pride in your work, keep at it, and learn from your mistakes! Life is better with good food. Don’t you agree?

Podcast Highlights:

  • Switch it up by using different plates. I like to be creative in the presentation.

  • Deconstruct meals. I'll separate the ingredients for him so it's the same food, but not mixed together. Gives him the option to mix items together or not.

  • Choose your own adventure. We build up taco night as "you get to be your own chef tonight, create your very own taco". We talk about the differences we have in our tacos. It's a way to build a conversation in a meal.

  • We eat too much on the go as adults. I want my son to know that food is something you stop for, and you enjoy and appreciate. So, he always has to sit.

  • My son has picky eating challenges, but I never want him to feel guilty about what he's eating. I want him to enjoy food. We're trying to create this balance. I want him to know what healthy eating is. And how to look at food as fuel and as pleasure.

  • When you're feeding your children don't harp over the day to day. Just think about their food for the week. Was it a good week. Did we have fun doing it? What does the whole week look like?

Busy parents around the world can now rejoice.

Weelicious (www.weelicious.com), the brainchild of actress, model, and mom Catherine McCord, provides a solution to parents’ hectic lives by showing them how to cook recipes that are kid-friendly, quick, and nutritious. Since Weelicious launched in October 2007, Catherine has been offering innovative ideas and instruction for delicious meals that are “easy, fresh, and fun.” Bolstered by a culinary background and a passion for food, Catherine makes cooking accessible using few, but fresh ingredients. Recipes appeal to a range of ages – from infants starting on solid foods to school-age kids and adults. “As a parent, you don’t have to be a short-order cook preparing four different meals for four different family members,” she says.
